This week has to be over-SOON!

This has been a very rough week for our house!

It started on Sunday- Father's Day when Rob woke all us up at 3am with horrible gagging sounds coming from the bathroom. I checked in on him and he just wanted to tough it out by himself. He ended up spending most the night in the bathroom. All signs pointed to food poisoning since he ate different food than Brandon and I did the day before. Every symptom he had pointed to clear out food poisioning.

Sadly, Brandon went to Oma and Opas for Fathers Day. I was way too worried about Rob to leave him alone and we didn't want Brandon being scared or around sick daddy. He got to spend time with extended family and auntie too in the pool and had a blast!

Rob started feeling better 24 hours later- not eating or moving much but at least he was keeping things down.

Monday I spent half the day in bed since I had a bad headache and bad morning sickness- boy was I wrong on that one. Overnight I couldn't sleep and at 1am Brandon started screaming loud. As a mom you know when it is a cry/scream that isn't normal. I ran into his room to find him gagging and quickly following in dads footsteps. I didn't have time to grab a towel or bucket so thankfully his blanket worked and we have lots of blankets. He stopped pretty quickly and just wanted to go back to sleep so I let him. About 30 minutes later I heard it again. This time I screamed for Rob to help. We got him cleaned up and put him in bed with us, lots of towels and buckets and he fell back asleep pretty quickly. Me...not so much. 10 minutes later I was rushing to the bathroom to join the party. I felt better after violently throwing up so I headed back to bed. Brandon would wake up every hour or so to use his bucket and lay back down to sleep. Immediately after he used the bucket I would rush to the bathroom for myself. It was a horrible night. Rob retreated to the recliner in the living room because he can't stand sick tummys. Finally at 5:30am Brandon and I both woke up fighting over the bucket. I screamed for Rob and he took Brandon and helped him. I took care of myself and headed back to bed. Rob and Brandon settled on the recliner to a bit. Brandon threw up a few more times and then he was done. I am always amazed at how kids bounce back so quickly from being sick.

However, it took me 2-3 days to start feeling better. It stayed in my system a bit longer than the boys. Every time I get the flu it always takes me longer to recover. I think being pregnant on top of it didn't help.

Finally Wednesday night I was able to do saltene crackers and Gatorade- very little! I had tiny amounts of energy back so I was looking forward to Thursday-taking Brandon to daycare and then catching up on work from my bed. Brandon was flu free for a while at this point (as was Rob) and doing great.

Thursday morning at 7am he opens his door and starts screaming a painful shreek. I thought he had a nightmare or something. He came running to find me with his head looking totally to the right and only that way and pointing to the back of his neck. I immediately suspected he slept wrong. I peeked in his bed and noticed his blankets barely moved during the night which is not like him. He is a major kicker at night and throws his blankets all over.

I picked him up to have him scream louder. I was able to get him settled on the bed with some juice so I could get ready for the day. Thank goodness I had some energy! We screamed through a diaper change and I knew he was hurting. Tylenol, ice or even Biofreeze didn't really help. He finally fell asleep for about 20 minutes but he was twitching his arms a lot. I grabbed the thermometer and took his temp- 99.6. That was when I got worried. I called his doctor and they recommended I bring him in right away. He was showing all signs of mennengetis and wanted to rule it out. Thanks doc...now you just gave momma a hear attack! They said they might take x-rays too. I knew I couldn't go in to the x-ray with him because of being pregnant. So I called Grandma Oni and she met us at the pediatricians office. They got us in right away and found his lymph nodes puffed up a bit. She immediately said we needed to rule out mennengetis. They did blood work to come back fine. His white blood count was normal. I breathed a big sigh of relief. I thought they would do the x-ray then but she was worried about strep so she did a strep test....also negative. This entire time Brandon was screaming in terrible pain. He still would only keep his head to the right.

After all tests came back fine she said it was probably some bad pulled muscle but it was good we tested him for the mennengetis. I felt so much better at that point and total relief. When he was taking his 20 minute nap I cried the entire time in total fear that something was major wrong. And I wanted to take his pain away and make him comfortable again.

We went home and had a popsicle for lunch-he deserved it! He ran to his room and just wanted to sleep. After an almost 2 plus hour nap he woke up not crying. He was a little fussy and still pointing to his neck. He asked to watch a movie and I thought that would be perfect for him for a bit. I set him up in the recliner with some juice and a pillow. He watched his movie and I decided to get our house de-germed. I bleached every inch of our house 10 times over.

Daddy finally came home and was able to get Brandon to play a bit and he finally started moving his neck. 12 hours after the start of this neck issue he is finally looking straight and not screaming as much.

I told Rob tonight that if I had to endure the flu every day for the rest of my life to ensure my son would be healthy and never have to go through this day again I would.

Being a mom is the most scariest and stressful jobs yet one of the most rewarding. Who knew I would celebrate a 2 year old moving his neck to look the other way. Now I really appreciate the little things and the healthy days.
